Adoption

In Christ, believers are brought into God’s household as beloved sons and daughters.

Formal Definition

Adoption is the gracious act of God whereby those justified in Christ are received into His family with all the privileges of children.

Explanation

Salvation does not stop at acquittal. God brings redeemed sinners near as children. Adoption speaks to identity, belonging, inheritance, intimacy, discipline, and the Spirit’s witness that we cry, “Abba, Father.”
