Human Dignity

Human dignity rests in humanity’s creation in the image of God, not in utility, power, or social worth.

Formal Definition

Human dignity is the God-given worth belonging to human beings because they are created by God and bear His image.

Key Scriptures

Genesis 1:26–27
Psalm 8
James 3:9

Explanation

Human value is not earned. It is received from the Creator. Even in a fallen world, people remain image-bearers and must not be treated as disposable. This doctrine is foundational for justice, mercy, protection of life, and neighbor-love.
