Providence

Providence describes God’s active preservation, governance, and wise ordering of creation and history.

Formal Definition

Providence is God’s continuous and purposeful upholding of creation and directing of history toward His holy will.

Key Scriptures

Matthew 10:29–31
Romans 8:28
Ephesians 1:11

Explanation

God is not a distant creator who set the world in motion and withdrew. Scripture portrays Him as actively sustaining life, setting boundaries, raising rulers, humbling the proud, and working all things toward His purposes.

Providence does not erase human responsibility. Instead, Scripture holds divine sovereignty and creaturely accountability together without embarrassment.
